Florida Association Of Mathematics Teacher Educators

Mission and Vision

FAMTE is an affiliate of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators, a non-profit organization with a mission to promote the improvement of mathematics teacher education in Florida.  Our vision is to create a community of scholars supporting innovation and excellence in the professional development of mathematics teachers. Our members include higher education faculty, researchers, school mathematics coordinators, graduate students, and other stakeholders.

Our Goals

  • Promote leadership among mathematics teacher educators in Florida’s broad mathematics education and mathematics communities.
  • Serve as a clearinghouse for ideas and resources in mathematics teacher education.
  • Encourage research related to mathematics teacher education, especially research that identifies factors that contribute to improving mathematics teachers’ preparation and professional development.
  • Promote the incorporation of appropriate technology into teacher education programs in mathematics.

FAMTE is proud to recognize excellence in our field through our Graduate Student of the Year Award and our Teacher Educator of the Year Award.

SYMPOSIUM

Our Annual Symposium provides an opportunity to share research on effective professional development of mathematics teachers.

Our Board of Directors

The FAMTE Board of Directors provides leadership of the society and is responsible for all operations of the association consistent with the Constitution and By-Laws of the organization. As described in the constitution, the Board of Directors is the policy-making body of FAMTE.

The Board of Directors consists of the elected officers and three Members-at-Large.

The terms of office for the elected officers of FAMTE and Members-at-Large are three years, except for President-Elect and Immediate Past President, who each serve one-year terms, and the President, who serves a two-year term. The Immediate Past President serves in the first year of the President’s term, and the President-Elect serves in the second year. Elected officers of FAMTE and the Members-at-Large assume office at the end of the annual meeting at which their election is announced. Officers or the Members-at-Large may serve only one term in a specific office.
Members of the Board of Directors are elected by the membership at the spring meeting. The President-Elect is elected in odd-numbered years. The Secretary and Treasurer are elected every three years. One Member-at-Large is elected each year.
