FCTM will award up to four mini-grants of up to $500 for projects to improve mathematics education in the State of Florida.

The Board is looking for high quality projects which will improve mathematics education at any grade level (Pre-K – Post Secondary). Projects which have been funded in the past include writing guidelines for competitions at the elementary level, developing monthly activities for each grade level in an elementary school, organizing community resources, etc. Project ideas will be judged on originality, uniqueness, and the potential impact on teachers and students.

Any FCTM member with four years of experience in the State of Florida may apply. The annual deadline for applications is March 14th.  The Awardee is required to submit a written reflection about the project’s implementation and success, to be included in FCTM’s journal or newsletter.

Tom Denmark Teacher Enhancement Grant
Tom Denmark Teacher Enhancement Grant

The FCTM Board established this annual grant in recognition of Dr. Tom Denmark, a long time active FCTM member. Through this grant the Board hopes to encourage participation at the FCTM Annual Conference as a way to provide mathematics professional development for FCTM members.

The Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics will award up to four Enhancement Grants for full time classroom teachers to attend the FCTM Annual Conference. The board will attempt to award one to a teacher from each of the following categories: Primary (Pre-K-2) teacher, Intermediate (3-5) teacher, Middle School (6-8) teacher, and High School (9-12) teacher. The annual application deadline is March 14.

Awardees will be required to submit a report on their session and workshop experiences encountered at the conference along with their receipts for reimbursement, no later than November 30th. The FCTM Treasurer will send a check to each recipient upon receipt of these materials.

Details: Each recipient of the grant will be reimbursed up to $500. This will help cover the cost of registration, as well as accommodations and transportation to attend the FCTM Annual Conference. This money may not to be used for FCTM dues, food, or substitute pay. Additional monetary expenses over the $500 grant that are incurred by the recipient will be at their own expense.

Who May Apply:

  1. Any current FCTM member* who is a full time classroom teacher currently certified and teaching in the state of Florida may apply.
  2. Applicants must be a member of FCTM.
  3. Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree and be currently certified with a Florida Teaching license.
  4. Applicants must be teaching mathematics at the time of the application and anticipate teaching mathematics during the following year.

Note: This grant is solely available for full time classroom teachers. Math Coaches and Administrators should consider applying for the Don Bernard Enhancement Grant. Current FCTM Board Members and past recipients of this award may not apply.

Lichtenberg Pre-Service Educator Grant

The FCTM Board established this annual grant in recognition of Drs. Don & Betty Lichtenberg, long time active FCTM members.

FCTM will award up to four Pre-service Educator Grants to attend the FCTM Annual Conference. The annual deadline for applications is March 14th. The FCTM Board will attempt to award these grants to students from different institutions.

Awardees will be required to submit a report on their session and workshop experiences encountered at the FCTM Annual Conference along with their receipts for reimbursement, no later than November 30th. The FCTM Treasurer will send a check to each recipient upon receipt of these materials.

Kenneth Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year Award

The Kenneth P. Kidd Mathematics Educator of the Year Award was established in 1976 to recognize an individual’s outstanding contributions to mathematics education.

Nominations should be submitted online by March 14th. Nominated applicants remain on the ballot for five years, and nominees will be asked to update information annually until nomination expires.

Who May Apply:

  1. The person shall have been actively involved in mathematics education in Florida for at least ten (10) years.
  2. The person has been professionally active and has made a significant contribution at the local, state, and/or national level.

The FCTM Board established this grant in recognition of Dr. Don Bernard, a long-time active FCTM member who supported mathematics teachers in a variety of ways. Through these grants, the board hopes to encourage participation at the FCTM Annual Conferences as a way to provide mathematics professional development for FCTM members who provide support to mathematics classrooms though not a full-time classroom teacher.

FCTM will award up to two Enhancement Grants to attend the FCTM Annual Conference. The annual deadline for applications is March 14.
